Women's Basketball falls to Central in season opener

Mankato, Minn. – The women's basketball team opened the season at home versus Central, a team located in Pella, Iowa. The Vikings fell to the Dutch 52-72.
 
The Vikings struggled in the first half falling behind 38-21 going into the locker room. They stuck with the Dutch better in the second half with Central only outscoring them by three points.
 
Jessica Englund (Andover, Minn./St. Francis) was the Vikings' scoring leader with 18 points. Six of those points came from good free throws in the last minute of the game after being fouled. Englund also had six rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
 
Amanda Edmison (Mayer, Minn./Watertown-Mayer) was the team's leading rebounder with seven, four of those boards were offensive rebounds. She also added seven points, two steals and two assists. In her first game in a Vikings uniform Tarah Schoof (New Ulm, Minn./Minnesota Valley Lutheran) had nine points.
 
The Vikings had a 30.6 field goal percentage and went 2-6 behind the three-point line. Their competitor had a 42.1 field goal percentage.
 
Next, the Vikings will travel to Decorah, Iowa for a tournament at Luther. The squad will take on the host team on November 18 at 5 p.m., then will play Simpson on November 19 at 1 p.m.
