Mankato, Minn. – The Vikings fell to 0-4 this season after facing Bethel Tuesday night. The Royals defeated Bethany Lutheran 65-41.
The Vikings started solid shooting 37.5 percent from the field in the first half. Despite holding their opponents to 31.4 percent from the field, they went into the locker room down by seven.
Coming out of the locker room the Vikings couldn’t keep up with the Royals. BLC went 3-26 from the field and 1-6 from behind the arc for an 11.5 field goal percentage. Bethel picked up the intensity going 16-30 for a 53.3 field goal percentage.
Leading the Vikings in scoring was Anna Cepek (Aurora, Neb./Aurora) who contributed 11 points. She also had four rebounds, one steal and one assist. Jessica Englund (Andover, Minn./St. Francis) led the team in rebounds grabbing 12. She recorded her third double-double of the season posting 10 points. Englund had three blocks and three assists to add to her stat line. Shelby Wiederhoeft (Truman, Minn./Truman) had 10 points and eight rebounds.
Bethany Lutheran improved its turnover margin committing 16 to Bethel’s 12. The Royals converted scoring 16 points off of turnovers, while the Vikings scored four. This was the first game of the season BLC got outrebounded grabbing 38 boards compared to Bethel’s 47.
Next, the Vikings will travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to take on Coe at 6 p.m. in a non-conference game.
