Vikings hold on to defeat Augsburg 79-77

Minneapolis, Minn. – The men’s basketball team defeated a tough Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference competitor in Augsburg tonight 79-77.
 
The Vikings had a dominate first half leading by as many as 23 before Augsburg went on a seven point run to finish the first half. The half time score was 41-25 in favor of Bethany.
 
The Vikings shot 51.5 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from behind the three-point arc in the first half. The Auggie's defense played tougher in the second holding the Vikes to a 38.7 field goal percentage.
 
Augsburg outscored Bethany 52-38 rallying with a 59.3 field goal percentage in the second half. Good free throw shooting solidified the win for the Vikings going 11-14 from the charity stripe. Bethany was outrebounded by Augsburg 28-36. The Vikings played quick gaining 10 points on the fast break while Augsburg had none. BLC limited turnovers committing eight compared to Augsburg’s 15.
 
Alex Weldon (Linmar, Iowa/Linmar) and Derek Peterson (St. Paul, Minn./Tartan) led the Vikings in scoring with 16 points each.  Garrett Benson (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) had 12 points. Patrick Garvin (Jackson, Minn./Jackson County Central) had 11 points. Both Garvin and Benson led the team in assists with four.  
 
Next, the Vikings will play at home on Saturday, December 17th at 4 p.m. versus Warburg.
