Vikings defeated by Wartburg 75-62

Mankato, Minn. – The men’s basketball team fell to Wartburg after fighting hard in the last minutes to extend the game. The Vikings were eventually defeated 75-62.
 
BLC went into the locker room down by five despite allowing the Knights to shoot 52.4 percent from the field in the first half. The knights started to open up the game in the second leading by as many as 13. The Vikes fought back within four points with five minutes left to play. Bethany fouled to extend the game down the stretch but Wartburg made key free throws shooting 82.6 percent from the charity stripe in the second half.
 
Gavin Kroehler (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) led the team offensively with 15 points. Kroehler also had five rebounds and one block. Derek Peterson (St. Paul, Minn./Tartan) had 15 points, three rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal to play a solid all-around game. Josh Allen (Fairmont, Minn./Fairmont) also had five rebounds.
 
The Vikings shot 38.1 percent from the field and struggled from behind the arc going 6-28 from three-point range. Wartburg outrebounded Bethany 42-23.
 
The next game for the Vikings will be after Christmas break at the Eau Claire Holiday Tournament. They are scheduled to play Simpson in the first round on December 29th at 5 p.m.
