Eau Claire, Wis. – In the first round of the UW-Eau Claire Holiday Classic the Bethany men’s basketball team fell to Simpson 71-83.
 
The Vikings were down by three at the half and couldn’t find an answer for Simpson’s offense that saw three players score in double figures. The Storm shot 70 percent from the three-point arc in the first half but the Vikings guarded the outside shot better in the second holding them to 2-7 from long range. Simpson averaged a 55.4 field goal percentage while the Vikings shot 39.1 percent from the field.
 
The Vikings were outrebounded 26-46. Bethany is still outperforming their competitors in ball handling only committing 10 turnovers compared to Simpson’s 21.
 
Alex Weldon (Marion, Iowa/Linmar) led the Vikings in scoring with 34 points. Weldon also had two assists and one steal. Gavin Kroehler (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) had eight points and Garrett (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) had seven points. Both saw limited minutes due to foul trouble. Derek Peterson (St. Paul, Minn./Tartan) had seven points and led the team in rebounds with six.
 
The Vikings will now take on Judson at 5 p.m. today. Judson fell to UW-Eau Claire in the first round 64-81. Live stats and video streaming will be available, click here to follow the Vikings.
