Mankato, Minn. – The men’s basketball team put up a fight in the last minutes of the game against the Carleton Knights tonight. Despite the late surge, the Vikings were defeated 69-73 putting them at 1-6 on the season.
The Vikings shot 24.2 percent from the field in the first half going into the locker room down 22-31. They came back in the second shooting 44.4 percent from the field outscoring Carleton 47-42. Bethany did many things right against last year’s Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Champions. The Vikings had six turnovers compared to Carleton’s 12. BLC also outrebounded the Knights grabbing 38 boards compared to 36. Always solid from the line, the Vikings went 10-10 from the charity stripe.
Alex Weldon (Linmar, Iowa/Linmar) led the team with 16 points, five rebounds, two assists and one steal. Gavin Kroehler (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) had 13 points and four rebounds. Patrick Garvin (Jackson, Minn./Jackson County Central) led the team in rebounds with six and added six points and four assists. Derek Peterson (St. Paul, Minn./Tartan) led the team in assists with five. Peterson also had 11 points and four rebounds.
Next, the Vikings will travel to take on another MIAC competitor in Augsburg on December 15th at 7:30 p.m.
