Win over St. Scholatica propel Vikings one step closer to post-season

Box Score

Mankato Minn.- Bethany men’s basketball team completed the season sweep of St. Scholastica with a score of 79-65. With the win Bethany Lutheran just needs one more to secure a berth to the UMAC Post-season Tournament. As it stands now the Vikings could finish as high as second, or not make the tournament.

The Vikings got off to a hot start shooting 54.2 percent from the field in the first half. Bethany also dominated the boards once again having nine more rebounds than St. Scholastica did. One key part of the game for the Vikings, was getting the ball into freshman post Sami Onsomu (Mankato, Minn./ Mankato East) to build a lead in the second half.

Bethany was led by Gavin Koehler (Le Sueur, Minn./ Le Sueur-Henderson) with 19 points off of the bench while grabbing six rebounds. Derek Peterson (Oakdale, Minn./ Tartan) and Onsomu were the other two Vikings in double-figure points with 17 and 15 respectively. Trevor Bartelt (Waldorf, Minn./ Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton) grabbed seven rebounds to lead in that category for the Vikings.

Bethany will be in action again next weekend when they play host to Northwestern and Crown on Friday and Saturday. Northwestern is currently in first place in the UMAC and beat the Vikings 71-45 earlier in the year, while the Vikings beat Crown 97-79 earlier this year. The Vikings are now 11-12 overall and 8-4 in conference play.
