Women's basketball finishes season on high note

Mankato, Minn.- The Bethany Lutheran women’s basketball team ended the season on a high note, beating Crown 96-45. The Vikings finished the season 9-15 overall and 5-9 in conference play.

 

The Vikings played great defense forcing 22 turnovers, while holding onto the ball themselves only turning it eight times. Bethany dominated in the rebounding category again pulling down 58 rebounds 30 of which were offensive rebounds. The Vikings also had a great distribution of points with five players in double figures.

 

Jessica Englund (Andover, Minn./ St. Francis) led the way for the Vikings with 21 points and 23 rebounds. Her 23 rebounds posted a new school record for most rebounds in a single game, the previous record was 21. Nicole Jones (Mankato, Minn./ Mankato East) also had a double-double with 17 points while dishing out 10 assists. Emily Schrupp (Norwood, Minn./ Mayer Lutheran), Amanda Edmison (Mayer, Minn./ Watertown-Mayer), and Kelsie Ammann (Lakeville, Minn./ Lakeville North) were the other three Vikings in double figure points with 16, 13, and 12 respectively.

 

After the game the Viking players and coach said good bye to senior Nicole Jones who played her last game in a Viking jersey. Jones finished the season averaging 13.9 points, 9.3 rebounds, while also leading the team in assists and steals.
