Vikings get two more wins in doubleheader vs. Martin Luther

New Ulm, Minn. – The Vikings took two more conference games in victories over Martin Luther at today’s doubleheader. Bethany Lutheran defeated the Knights 10-0, and then 11-3.

Darin Hendley (Nicollet, Minn./Mankato East) pitched a full seven innings earning the shut-out. He gave up nine hits, walked two batters and struck out six. The Vikings were errorless in the field and only left three men on base.

 

Brad Lawson (Belle Plaine, Minn./Dakota County) tripled in the first inning for the first RBI of the game. Casey Woodside (Albert Lea, Minn./MN-Crookston) recorded his fifth double of the season in the seventh inning to record the last RBI of the game. Lawson went two for three, as did Woodside, each crossed home plate twice and had two RBIs.

 

Aaron Siefken (Lone Rock, Iowa/Iowa Central CC) and Sam Stier (Austin, Minn./Pacelli) each recorded two RBIs on one hit.

Justin Kohls started on the mound for the Vikings pitching five innings allowing four hits and three runs, two of which were earned. He struck out five batters, and walked two. Phillip Wessberg (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) and Travis Fisher (Cedar, Minn./St. Francis) each came in for an inning without allowing a hit. Fisher struck out two of the three batters he faced.

 

The Vikings left seven on base and committed one error on defense. Benji Hager (Owatonna, Minn./Ridgewater CC) stole second, and third in the fourth inning.

 
 

Woodside hit another double in the first inning for an RBI, then hit his first home run of the season in the second; he was two for two. Mitch Kleist (Eagle Lake, Minn./Mankato East) kept his bat going documenting a double. Zach Herd (Gaylord, Minn./Sibley East), Siefken, and Fisher all had triples in the game. Siefken and Fisher both had three RBIs while going two for four.

 

Next, the Vikings (12-5, 7-2 UMAC) will take on Northland on Friday at 3 p.m.
