Baseball sweeps Northwestern in tripleheader

St. Paul, Minn. – The Viking baseball team squeezed in a tripleheader today after games were pushed back due to weather. Bethany Lutheran swept Northwestern.

 
Game 1 (W 5-3, 10 innings)

Cody Hallahan (Silver Lake, Minn./Minnesota State, Mankato) and Garret Benson (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Mayo) split time on the mound pitching five innings each. Hallahan gave up thirteen hits and three runs while striking out five batters. Benson also struck out five batters allowing two hits and no runs.

 

Offensively Casey Woodside (Albert Lea, Minn./MN-Crookston) had an outstanding game batting in four runs for the Vikings. He went three for four hitting two home runs including a bomb to score two at the top of the tenth to give the Vikings the lead. Travis Fisher (Cedar, Minn./St. Francis) also had an RBI going two for four.

 

Both the Vikings and the Eagles had three errors in the field.

 
Game 2 (W 7-6)

Aaron Siefken (Lone Rock, Iowa/Iowa Central CC) got the win for BLC, Darin Hendley (Nicollet, Minn./Mankato East) came in for the last inning to earn the save. Siefken gave up nine hits and six runs while striking out three and walking three. Hendley allowed one hit while striking out and walking one batter.

 

Fisher continued his solid day going two for four; both of his hits were doubles. He scored one run and batted in two. Tommy Kramer (Blooming Prairie, Minn./Rochester CC) went two for four with two RBI. Mitch Kleist (Eagle Lake, Minn./Mankato East) batted in one on his double.

 

The Vikings didn’t commit any errors in the field but were down until the top of the seventh when they scored four on three hits and one Northwestern error.

 
Game 3 (W 7-1)

Justin Kohls (Watertown, Minn./Dakota County CC) got his sixth win of the season pitching six innings until Hendley came in for the last inning again. Kohls allowed five hits and one run, walking two and striking out two. Hendley faced four batters allowing just on hit.

 

The Vikings had five timely hits to give them seven runs, Northwestern had three errors. Kleist had two RBI on one hit.

 

Bethany Lutheran will play against this weekend hosting Crown on Friday and Saturday.
