Mankato, Minn.- Bethany Lutheran breezed through a pair of conference games against Crown in a windy afternoon double header 11-1, and 11-1.
Darin Hendley (Nicollet, Minn./Mankato East) took the mound for the Vikings and improved his record to 3-0 on the year. Hendley pitched four innings of shutout baseball, allowing only one hit while striking out two. Sam Stier (Austin, Minn. / Pacelli) came in for two innings of relief allowing one run on two hits and two walks while striking out three. Eric Kropp (Inver Grove Heights, Minn. / Simley) finished the game on the hill giving up one hit and striking out one.
Offensively the Vikings pounded out eleven hits and took advantage of six Crown errors to put up eleven runs. Nine players recorded hits in game one led by Zach Herd (Gaylord, Minn. / Sibley East) and Aaron Siefken (Lone Rock, Iowa / Iowa Central CC ) with two apiece. Herd, Siefken, and Casey Woodside (Albert Lea, Minn. / MN-Crookston) each scored two runs apiece for Bethany.
Justin Kohls (Watertown, Minn. / Dakota County CC) picked up his seventh win of the season to up his record to 7-0. Kohls threw four shutout innings while allowing one hit, two walks and striking out five. Kropp came in relief again pitching one inning, allowing one run on two hits and one walk. Trent Sonnicksen (Blue Earth / Blue Earth Area) closed the game with a scoreless seventh, striking out two and walking two.
Herd and Woodside continued their hot bats in game two recording two hits apiece in three at bats. Mitch Kleist (Eagle Lake, Minn. / Mankato East) and Ethan Lind (Phillips, Wis. / Dakota County CC) also recorded two hits in the game. Tommy Kramer (Blooming Prairie, Minn. / Rochester CC) had three RBI. Erik Kiihn (Minnetonka, Minn. / Hopkins) doubled in a run and later scored himself in his first collegiate at bat.
BLC is scheduled to take on Crown again Saturday at 12pm for a single nine inning game.
