Duluth, Minn. – The Vikings defeated Presentation in today’s first game of the UMAC Post-Season 10-9 in what was the most exciting come back of the year. Bethany Lutheran advanced to play St. Scholastica and led until the bottom of the eighth inning eventually falling 6-1.
Game One vs. Presentation (W 10-9)
The Vikings trailed 9-1 going into the bottom of the eighth inning. BLC managed eight runs to tie the game, and defeated Presentation on a walk off single by Jeremy Bade (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley).
Cody Hallahan (Silver Lake, Minn./Minnesota State, Mankato) got the start striking out 10 batters in six and a third innings pitched. The senior gave up six runs on eight hits. Garrett Benson (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Mayo) came in for an out giving up two runs, both unearned. Phil Wessberg (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) came in for an inning and a third giving up one run on two hits.
After the game was tied up Aaron Siefken (Lone Rock, Minn./Iowa Central CC) went three up three down in the top of the ninth to earn the win.
Brad Lawson (Belle Plaine, Minn./Dakota County CC) and Zach Herd (Gaylord, Minn./Sibley East) went three for four. Herd hit two doubles and had two RBI. Dylan Gass (Bird Island, Minn./BOLD) went two for four with three RBI. Siefken had a double and two RBI.
The Vikings left 13 on base and committed one error.
Game Two vs. St. Scholastica (L 1-6)
The final score did not reflect how close the match-up of the Saints and Vikings was tonight. Siefken pitched a solid game going seven and a third innings striking out seven batters. He was credited with the loss allowing eight hits and five earned runs. Benson came in to finish the game off going two thirds of an innings.
The Vikings only run came in the first from a single RBI by Lawson. Tommy Kramer (Blooming Prairie, Minn./Rochester CC) led BLC offensively hitting two for three.
Bethany Lutheran left seven on base and had one error in the field.
Because the tournament is set up as double elimination, tomorrow BLC will play Northwestern at 1 p.m. The winner of that game will advance to take on St. Scholastica at 4 p.m.
