Duluth, Minn. – The Vikings defeated Northwestern to make it to the championship game of the UMAC Post-Season Tournament, but eventually fell to St. Scholastica who earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Game One vs. Northwestern (W 6-4)
Justin Kohls remained undefeated on the season improving his record to 9-0. He pitched a complete game allowing ten hits and three earned runs in nine innings.
Casey Woodside (Albert Lea, Minn./MN-Crookston) led the Vikings offensively going two for four batting in three runners, including one double. Brad Lawson (Belle Plaine, Minn./Dakota County CC) also went two for four and scored one run. Two more RBIs came off a triple by Aaron Siefken (Lone Rock, Minn./Iowa Central CC). Dylan Gass (Bird Island, Minn./BOLD) had the final Viking RBI and scored one run.
Despite three errors in the field Bethany Lutheran managed to hold the Eagles with out any runs the final six innings to secure the win.
Game Two vs. St. Scholastica (L 2-26)
It was a tough championship game for the Vikings. Down a starting pitcher due to injury BLC threw six different pitchers trying to find the answer.
In total the Vikings allowed 29 hits and committed one error. Bethany Lutheran had nine hits and only two runs came in the seventh.
This wraps up the regular season and conference post-season for the Vikings taking second in the UMAC. They wait news after finishing the season 27-10 if they will advance to the NCAA Tournament.
