Morris, Minn. – The Vikings took on the Cougars in a doubleheader Saturday before turning their sights to the UMAC Post-Season Tournament. Bethany Lutheran came away with two wins defeating Minnesota-Morris putting their overall record at 25-8 and 18-2 in the conference.
Game One (W 3-2)
Darin Hendley (Nicollet, Minn./Mankato East) pitched a complete seven innings earning the win. The senior allowed just three hits and one earned run. Behind solid pitching the Vikings committed two errors in the field.
The Vikings three runs all came in the sixth inning when Casey Woodside (Albert Lea, Minn./MN-Crookston) singled to the shortstop with the bases loaded. Immediately following, Travis Fisher (Cedar, Minn./St. Francis) came to the plate and singled to right field for another RBI. For the final run, Brad Lawson (Belle Plaine, Minn./Dakota County CC) hit a sacrifice fly to right field.
Woodside led the team offensively going three for three.
Game Two (W 4-3)
Cody Hallahan (Silver Lake, Minn./Minnesota State, Mankato) and Aaron Siefken (Lone Rock, Iowa/Iowa Central CC) split time on the mound for the Vikings in the second game. Hallahan struck out seven batters in four innings and didn’t give up any runs on four hits. Siefken had eight hits in thee innings with two earned runs.
Like the first game all of BLC’s runs came in a single inning, this time in the fifth. Zach Herd (Gaylord, Minn./Sibley East) hit a double for an RBI. A passed ball and an error scored two more before Hendley single to center field for the final RBI.
Herd went two for four, as did Woodside. Hendley went two for three.
The Vikings will travel to Duluth for the UMAC Post-Season Championships to compete on Thursday and Friday in a double-elimination tournament. The winner of the playoffs will get an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
