Storm Lake, Iowa – The women's soccer team had the same success as the men's over the weekend finishing 1-1 taking on Bethel, and tournament host team Buena Vista.

In the first game against a powerful Bethel squad BLC was overpowered only getting one shot off in the 90 minutes. Alexa Mowery (Fairmont, Minn./Fairmont) was in goal recording 13 saves.

The Vikings came back with a new focus to defeat Buena Vista in double overtime. The Vikings fell to the Beavers last season 1-0 on a penalty kick. This year redemption was sweet when Joelle Pipal (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) kicked the game winner for the Vikings on a penalty kick in the 103rd minute. Pipal also scored the other goal for the Vikings to tie the game in the second half forcing overtime. Kindra Fairburn (Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) was credited with the assist.

The Vikings were outshot 22-13 but Mowery was solid recording eight saves in goal.

Bethany Lutheran will take on Wisconsin Lutheran in the home opener on Friday September 9 at 7 p.m.
