Vikings play tough defense to defeat the Saints

Mankato, Minn. – The men’s basketball team kept up with a quick St. Scholastica squad to get their second conference victory of the season. The Vikings defeated the Saints 65-58.
 
Although the Vikings led throughout the entire game, the score remained close with St. Scholastica inching within three points with a minute left to go. Bethany stayed composed down the stretch to seal the victory.
 
BLC played tough defense holding the Saints to 36.7 percent from the field and 20.0 percent from behind the three-point arc. BLC had a 41.8 percent field goal percentage but couldn’t find the sweet spot from three-point range shooting 21.1 percent. The Vikings were outrebounded by the Saints 37-38 but Bethany capitalized on opportunities scoring 10 second chance points compared to St. Scholastica’s six.
 
Gavin Kroehler (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) played tough inside scoring 17 points, he added seven rebounds and two assists. Derek Peterson (St. Paul, Minn./Tartan) had 13 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Alex Weldon (Marion, Minn./Linmar) had 13 points with two assists. Patrick Garvin (Jackson, Minn./Jackson County Central) had seven rebounds and four assists.
 
The Vikings are now 4-9 overall and 2-0 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference. They will take on conference opponent Northland tomorrow at 5 p.m.
