Women's basketball defeats St. Scholastica

Mankato, Minn. – The women’s basketball team earned their first conference victory of the year against St. Scholastica 68-59.
 
Bethany had the lead 33-27 at halftime and kept it throughout the second. The Vikings and Saints shot similarly from the field with St. Scholastica shooting a 35.4 field goal percentage while BLC shot a 36.9 field goal percentage. The difference came outside the arc. St. Scholastica went 25.0 percent from three-point range while the Vikings shot 42.1 percent. The Vikings outrebounded the Saints 51-40.
 
Jessica Englund (Andover, Minn./St. Francis) had 18 points and 14 rebounds recording another double-double. Englund also had two assists, two steals and one block. Jade Pelzl (Rushford, Minn./UW-Eau Claire) had 13 points, two assists and two steals. Kasslin Swenson (Nicollet, Minn./Nicollet) had a solid all-around game with 11 points and nine rebounds. Alyssa Blume (Weston, Wis./UW-Stevens Point) led the team in assists with six and in steals with four, she also had seven points.
 
The Vikings are now 2-11 overall and 1-1 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference. BLC will play conference opponent Northland tomorrow at 3 p.m.
