Vikings surprise Northland with 68-56 victory

Mankato, Minn. – The Vikings have proven to themselves and competitors they can play with the best of them after defeating UMAC preseason second ranked Northland 68-56.
 
The Vikings are gaining momentum and are playing up to their potential. Bethany held Northland to a 39.5 field goal percentage. The Vikings excelled offensively in all areas going 50.9 percent from the field, 41.7 percent from three-point range and 77.8 percent from the free-throw line. Defensively the Vikings outworked the LumberJills on the boards grabbing 38 rebounds compared to Northland’s 19.
 
Four Viking players scored in double figures. Jessica Englund (Andover, Minn./St. Francis) recorded her tenth double-double of the year with 16 points and 10 rebounds. She went a solid 7-11 from the field and added one assist and one block. Anna Cepek (Aurora, Neb./Aurora) had 13 points, two steals and a team high six assists. Jade Pelzl (Rushford, Minn./UW-Eau Claire) had 11 points and two assists. Kasslin Swenson (Nicollet, Minn./Nicollet) came off the bench for 10 points and seven rebounds.
 
The Vikings improve to 3-12 overall and 2-1 in the conference. Next, the squad will play on the road Friday, January 20th at Minnesota-Morris.
