Three-point shooting secures win over Northwestern

Mankato, Minn. – The women’s basketball team defeated Northwestern 81-76. The Vikings were outscored in the second half but had a large enough cushion from the first half to secure the win.
 
The Viking shot 42.0 percent from the field while the Eagles had a 41.7 field goal percentage. The difference came in the team’s three-point shooting. Northwestern shot 40.0 percent going 6-15 from behind the arc. Bethany went 11-23 from three-point range shooting 47.8 percent. The Vikings also worked hard rebounding grabbing 47 boards compared to Northwestern’s 35.
 
Jade Pelzl (Rushford, Minn./ UW-Eau Claire) had a stand out game leading the team with 19 points. She went 7-11 from the field and 5-8 from three-point range. Pelzl also added four rebounds and two assists. Jessica Englund (Andover, Minn./St. Francis) recorded another double-double with 16 points and a team high 15 rebounds. Englund had three assists. Alyssa Blume (Weston, Wis./UW-Stevens Point) led the team in assists with four and had 11 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Amanda Edmison (Mayer, Minn./Watertown-Mayer) also scored in double figures with ten points.
 
The Vikings improve to 5-2 in the conference which puts them in a three way tie for second, they are 6-12 overall. Bethany will play at home versus Martin Luther on Tuesday, January 31st at 5:30 p.m.
