Women's basketball comes close to knocking down MLC

Mankato, Minn. – The Bethany women’s basketball team put up a fight against the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) undefeated Martin Luther Knights. Despite having the lead at halftime, the Vikings fell 81-70.
 
The Knights shot 37.7 percent from the field but the Vikings were more consistent shooting 40.3 percent from the field. The difference came in three-point shooting. The Vikes were only 3-16 shooting 18.8 percent from behind the arc. Martin Luther was 6-12 shooting 50.0 percent from behind the arc. The Vikings outrebounded their competitor grabbing 53 boards compared to Martin Luther’s 35.
 
Jessica Englund (Andover, Minn./St. Francis) led the team with another double-double recording 26 points and 15 rebounds. She also had three assists and two blocks. Jade Pelzl (Rushford, Minn./UW-Eau Claire), Anna Cepek (Aurora, Neb./Aurora) and Kasslin Swenson (Nicollet, Minn./Nicollet) had 10 points each. Kelsie Amman (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) led the team is assists with five.
 
The Vikings will play at home this weekend. On Friday they will take on Presentation at 5:30 p.m., on Saturday the squad will faceoff with Minnesota-Morris at 3 p.m. Bethany is 6-12 overall and 5-3 in the UMAC.
