Mankato, Minn. – The women’s soccer team is breathing a sigh of relief after defeating the Crown Storm 2-1 in overtime. Despite outshooting the Storm 30 to eight the Vikings had a problem finding the back of the net.
Crown got on the board first at the 19:27 mark to take the early lead. Kathryn Scislow (Lakeville, Minn. / St. Croix Lutheran) tied the game on a penalty kick that slipped past the Crown keeper. The second half remained scoreless despite the Vikes taking 17 shots. It wasn’t until the 97th minute that BLC became the victor. Maggie LaPlante (White Bear Lake, Minn. / White Bear Lake) scored on a far shot that went above the keeper unassisted. Bethany had a six to three corner kick advantage.
Alexa Mowery (Fairmont, Minn. / Fairmont) was in between the pipes recording three saves for BLC.
With this win the Vikings are one step closer to securing a spot in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Post-Season Tournament. They current stand tied for third. Bethany is 8-5-1 overall and 6-2 in the UMAC. Next, the Vikings will travel to Minnesota-Morris on October 13th for a game at 2:30 p.m.
