Minneapolis, Minn. - The Vikings played an outstanding 90 minutes on the road to defeat Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UAMC) rival Northwestern 2-1. It was the first time in school history the Vikings beat the Eagles. The next day BLC traveled to North Central and defeated the Rams 2-0.
Northwestern got on the board first with a goal 23 minutes in. The Vikings answered with a goal from Marta Faugstad (Mankato, Minn. / Mankato East) at the 31:39 mark. Bethany kept the momentum going and senior Maggie LaPlante (White Bear Lake, Minn. / White Bear Lake) found the back of the net five minutes later at the 36:32 mark. Both of Bethany’s goals were assisted by Paige Taylor (Coon Rapids, Minn. / Totino Grace).
Bethany had 14 shots, 10 of which were on goal. Northwester had 23 shots 16 of which were on goal. Bethany had six corner kick while Northwestern had nine.
Alexa Mowery (Fairmont, Minn. / Fairmont) played keeper recording 13 saves to get the win. The Viking defense never let down and also saved two goals from going in the net.
Against the North Central Rams Taylor Friehl (Albert Lea, Minn. / Albert Lea) was the lone goal scorer. She got the Vikings on the board six minutes into the game. Her first goal was assisted by Faugstad and Taylor. Friehl scored a security goal at the 51:18 mark assisted by Taylor to finalize the score.
Bethany outshot the Rams 27 to zero. Bethany had 10 corner kicks with North Central had four.
Bethany is 11-6-1 overall and 9-3 in the UMAC. The Vikings are currently third in the conference standings. BLC will close out the regular season at home with games against Northland on October 26th and St. Scholastica on October 27th.
