Second half surge lifts Vikings over Northland

Box Score

Mankato, Minn. – The women’s soccer team pulled out a win against Northland defeating the LumberJills 3-1.

The game was tied 1-1 at halftime thanks to a quick start by the LumberJills who scored 10 minutes into the game. It wasn’t until the 25:33 mark that Bethany could find an answer. Maggie LaPlante (White Bear Lake, Minn. / White Bear Lake) scored her twelfth goal of the season assisted by Paige Taylor (Coon Rapids, Minn. / Totino Grace). That was Taylor’s 16th assist of the season ranking her in the top five nationally in the total assists category.

Bethany dominated the second half outshooting Northland 17 to one. Kathryn Scislow (Lakeville, Minn. / St. Croix Lutheran) gave the Vikings the lead after taking a penalty kick. The Northland keeper saved Scislow’s first attempt but the Viking immediately crashed the net to take advantage of the rebound and earned her seventh goal of the season. LaPlante scored once more at the 83:30 mark, this time unassisted.

Alexa Mowery (Fairmont, Minn. / Fairmont) was in between the pipes recording four saves to earn the win.

The Vikings improved to 12-6-1 overall and 10-3 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). It is the best conference record the women’s soccer team has recorded in school history. BLC has one more regular season game when they host St. Scholastica at 2:30 p.m. on October 27th. The Vikings have already been guaranteed a spot in the UMAC Post-Season Tournament.
