St. Peter, Minn. – The men’s basketball team fell to Gustavus Adolphus in their first road game of the season by a score of 83-63. Bethany trailed by 14 going into the locker room, the second half was a much closer match but the damage had already been done.
The Vikings shot 46.3 percent from the field but struggled from the three-point line going four for 17. The Gusties shot 60.0 percent from the field and 53.3 percent from the three-point line. Bethany was outrebounded by Gustavus 37 to 25.
Gavin Kroehler (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur) was back to his old self after an uncharacteristically cold season opener. The senior was six for 12 from the field with a total of 17 points. He also added five rebounds. Derek Peterson (St. Paul, Minn./Tartan) recorded nine points and led the team in steals with three.
Deon Wright (Milwaukee, Wis./Messmer), Alex Weldon (Marion, Iowa/Linmar), Patrick Garvin (Jackson, Minn. / Jackson County Central) and Garrett Benson (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) each had six points. Wright also had five rebounds. Off the bench Garet Tucker (Rapid City, S.D./St. Thomas More) went four for seven contributing eight points.
The Vikings will have a chance to get their first win of the season on November 21st when they travel to Concordia Chicago. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
