Vikings fall at Carleton, lose 6th straight

Box Score Northfield, Minn. - Bethany's rough stretch of four games in seven days ended Friday night at Carleton with their fourth loss in seven days as the Vikings fell to the Knights 80-58. The loss is the sixth straight for Vikings as they drop to 2-8.

Alex Weldon (Marion, Iowa/Linmar) was an early catalyst for the Vikings. He drained a three-pointer and hit a lay-up to help Bethany gain a 7-5 advantage two minutes into the game. That was their last lead of the game.

Carleton then went on a 19-3 run as they would lead 45-29 at the break. The Knights started the second half with a 15-4 run, putting the game out of reach.

Weldon was the only Viking to score in double figures with 16 points as Bethany shot only 29 percent from the field. Garet Tucker (Rapid City, SD/St. Thomas More) led the team with five rebounds while Patrick Garvin (Jackson, Minn./Jackson County Central) dished out five assists.

The Knights had four players in reach double digits in scoring led by Scott Theisen with 25 points. Tom Sawatzke added 18 points, while Tyler Goetz scored 15 and Shane McSparron contributed with 14.

Bethany closes out the 2012 portion of their schedule with their final non-conference tune-up Thursday at Wartburg.
