Vikings fall to Coe

Mankato, Minn. - The Bethany women’s basketball team returned home to face the Coe Kohawks. The Vikings trailed for most of the game and fell by the score of 80-67.
 
The first half saw the Vikings fall behind and head into the locker room down 45-33 at halftime. The Vikings would trail by as many as 19 points in the second half, and the closest they came the rest of the way was ten points down with 33 seconds remaining. The Vikings were outscored in the second half by a score of 35-34.
 
The Bethany women shot 41.5 percent from the field in the contest compared to Coe’s rate of 59.3 percent from the field. The Vikings also were outrebounded by Coe losing the battle of the boards 32-28. The Vikings outshot the Kohawks from the free-throw line making 84.2 percent of their foul shots compared to Coe’s 64.7 percent from the charity stripe. Turnovers were even at 16 apiece.
 
Jade Pelzl (Rushford, Minn./UW-Eau Claire) led the team in scoring with 21 points and recorded four steals. Shelby Wiederhoeft (Truman, Minn./Truman) also had four steals to go along with eight points and a team-leading 11 rebounds in the contest. Kelsie Ammann (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) scored 13 and led the team in assists with four.
 
The Vikings will travel to Pella, Iowa to take on Central for their next contest on December 8th. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
