The Vikings could not defeat the Northland LumberJills or the St. Scholastica Saints in the second meeting of the season. Earlier in the year Bethany beat Northland and St. Scholastica at home, this time the Vikings fell to the LumberJills 77-87 and the Saints 50-65 on the road.
Against Northland Bethany shot 46.3 percent from the field while the LumberJills shot 49.1 percent from the field. Northland went 9-21 and the Vikings went 8-22 from thee-point range. Bethany outrebounded the LumberJills 41-29 but the Vikings had 12 turnovers compared to Northland’s three.
Jessica Englund (Andover, Minn./St. Francis) led the team in points with 23 and in rebounds with nine. Jade Pelzl (Rushford, Wis./UW-Eau Claire) and Shelby Wiederhoeft (Truman, Minn./Truman) each had 12 points. Pelzl also had four rebounds and three assists. Wiederhoeft had seven rebounds and two assists. Kelsie Ammann (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) led the team in assists with five.
Against St. Scholastica the Saints held the Vikings to a cold 23.3 percent from the field and 29.2 percent from three-point range. Bethany also shot an abnormally low 47.4 percent from the free-throw line. The Saints shot 43.8 percent from the field.
Englund had a double-double with 18 points and 17 rebounds. Ammann had 17 points, two assists and two steals.
The Vikings will finish out the regular season on the road against Northwestern at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and Crown at 3 p.m. on Saturday. The Vikings are 6-17 overall and 5-7 in the conference slipping to fifth place in the UMAC tied with Northwestern.
