St. Peter, Minn. – The Bethany women’s tennis team got its season underway over the weekend at Swanson Tennis Center. The Vikings went up against Minnesota State, Mankato on February 3 and then University of Minnesota Duluth on February 4. Bethany fell to the Mavericks 0-9 and to the Bulldogs 0-9.
 
In the singles competition Rebecca Kopacek, Rebecca Neumann and Marta Faugstad each managed a point against the Mavericks falling 6-0, 6-1. The doubles team of Ellen Tommerdahl and Brooke Osmundson had the best performance of the day for the Vikings falling 8-2.
 
In the match against the Bulldogs Bethany recorded a few more points than the day before. Tommerdahl had the best performance although falling 6-0 in the first set she came back to almost take her opponent to three falling 7-5. Alyssa Rau and Rebecca Grove came close to giving Bethany a win falling in doubles 8-6.
 
The Vikings have over a month to improve their skills with their next match scheduled for March 23 against St. Scholastica at the Swanson Tennis Center.
