Cedar Rapids, Iowa – The baseball team travelled to Coe for a three game series over the weekend. The Vikings went 1-2 versus the Kohawks.
Game 1 (L 1-3)
Aaron Siefken (Lone Rock, Iowa/Iowa Central CC) started on the mound pitching five innings giving up nine hits and two earned runs. He walked three batters while striking out five. Eric Kropp (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) came in to close out the game. Kropp didn’t give up any hits, walked one batter and struck out one batter.
Offensively the Vikings were cold only recording two hits. Tommy Kramer (Blooming Prairie, Minn./Rochester CC) and Adam Gieger (Mankato, Minn./Immanuel Lutheran) each had a hit. Gieger had Bethany’s only RBI.
The Vikes had one run on two hits with one error and left two on base. Coe had three runs on nine hits and also had one error. The Kohawks left nine on base.
Game 2 (W 4-3)
Jordan Sinell (Le Sueur, Minn./Minnesota State, Mankato) started the second game for the Vikings. He pitched five innings giving up three hits and one earned run. Philip Wessberg (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) came in giving up one run and one hit. Freshman Tyler Woodside (Albert Lea, Minn./Glenville-Emmons) came in to finish things off pitching an inning and two thirds. He faced five batters with out giving up a hit.
Gieger went two for three with one RBI. Casey Woodside (Albert Lea, Minn./Minnesota-Crookston) went two for four. Jeremy Bade (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) had one hit to bat in two runners. Sam Stier (Austin, Minn./Pacelli) and Lucas Herd (Gaylord, Minn./Sibley East) also each had a hit.
The Vikings had four runs on seven hits. The team left nine on base and had one error in the field. Coe had three runs on four hits. The Kohawks left six on base and had four errors in the field.
Game 3 (L 4-8)
For the third game of the series Garrett Benson (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Mayo) had a great start pitching four and a third innings giving up seven hits and five runs. He struck out five batters with out walking any. Travis Fisher (Cedar, Minn./St. Francis) came in for a third of an inning giving up three hits and three runs. Jake Gleason (Loretto, Minn./Mesabi CC) closed out the game for an inning and a third with just two hits.
Stier led with two RBI on one hit. Herd and Dylan Gass (Bird Island, Minn./BOLD) also had an RBI on one hit. Woodside logged a triple.
The Vikings had four runs on seven hits, no errors and eight left on base. Coe had eight runs on 12 hits, one error in the field and seven left on base.
Next, Bethany will play in the Metrodome against Macalester on Wednesday, March 21 at 7 p.m.
