Minneapolis, Minn. – The Vikings fell to Macalester 9-8 in the Metrodome. The trip was originally scheduled to be a doubleheader but it took 12 innings to decide a winner in the first game and the second game was subsequently cancelled.
The Vikings used seven different pitchers throughout the 12 innings. Alex Klug (Caledonia, Minn./Rochester CC) started on the mound giving up two hits and three runs in two and a third innings pitched. Jake Gleason (Loretto, Minn./Mesabi CC) came in for an inning and a third also giving up three runs, this time on four hits. Philip Wessberg (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) came in for a third of an inning giving up one hit and striking out one batter. Dylan McCormick (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson) came in for two innings allowing just two hits and one run. Tyler Woodside (Albert Lea, Minn./Glenville-Emmons) then came in for an inning also giving up two hits and one run. Next, Jordan Sinell (Le Sueur, Minn./Minnesota State, Mankato) came in for three innings. He allowed three hits, no runs and struck out one batter. Eric Kropp (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) was credited with the loss after pitching the last two innings. He allowed two hits and one run.
The Vikings led 8-7 until the top of the seventh when Macalester tied it up. BLC left 14 runners on base and had one error in the field.
Tommy Kramer (Blooming Prairie, Minn./Rochester CC) and Adam Geiger (Mankato, Minn./Immanuel Lutheran) each had two doubles. Kramer had two RBI going two for six; Geiger had one RBI hitting two of his three at bats. Sam Stier (Austin, Minn./Pacelli), Nick Mahle (Anoka, Minn./Iowa Central CC) and Casey Woodside (Albert Lea, Minn./Minnestoa-Crookston) also each had a double. Mahle went three for four on the day while Woodside went two for six. Jeremy Bade (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) had a triple to bat in two runners.
Next, the Vikings will play against Buena Vista in Storm Lake, Iowa, on March 27 at 3 p.m.
