Baseball travels to Buena Vista

Storm Lake, Iowa – The Bethany baseball team traveled to Buena Vista falling to the Beavers 19-4.
 
The Vikings went through seven pitchers. Jordan Sinell (Le Sueur, Minn./Minnesota State, Mankato) was credited with the loss after giving up Bethany’s 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth. Alex Klug (Caledonia, Minn./Rochester CC) started on the mound pitching two innings giving up one hit. He struck out two batters and walked two. Travis Fisher (Cedar, Minn./St. Francis) came in to pitch two innings giving up two runs on two hits. He struck out three batters and walked one. Sinell entered the game giving up three hits and four runs during his time; only one of the runs was earned. Eric Kropp (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) also gave up four runs and three hits, James Dean (Eden Prairie, Minn./Dodge) replaced him allowing two runs on three hits. Phil Wessberg (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) went on the mound for the sixth inning giving up seven runs on six hits. Dylan McCormick (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson) closed out the game throwing the last two innings recording one strikeout and only giving up one hit.
 
On the offensive side the Vikings had four hits, two of which came from designated hitter Casey Woodside (Albert Lea, Minn./Minnesota-Crookston). Woodside recorded three RBI. Bethany’s other RBI came from Nick Mahle (Anoka, Minn./Iowa Central CC) who hit a double. Tommy Kramer (Blooming Prairie, Minn./Rochester CC) was the other Viking to record a hit.
 
The Vikings committed five errors in the field and left six on base. Buena Vista’s 19 runs came on 19 hits. The Beavers had two errors in the field and left seven on base.
 
Bethany will host its conference opener this weekend taking on last season’s Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Champion St. Scholastica. The teams will take the field for a nine inning game on Friday, March 30th at 3 p.m. and then go head to head Saturday, March 31st for a doubleheader starting a Noon.
