Baseball falls to the Saints 6-2 in conference opener

Box Score

Mankato, Minn. – In their home and conference opener the Vikings fell to last year’s Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Champion St. Scholastica 6-2.

The score remained at zeros until the bottom of the fourth when Bethany managed a run. Adam Geiger (Mankato, Minn./Immanuel Lutheran) reached on St. Scholastica’s only error of the day and advanced to second. A groundout would allow Geiger to move to third. Jeremy Bade (Inver Grove Heights. Minn./Simley) put the ball in play reaching on a fielders choice. Though there were two outs in the inning, the Saints chose to throw home but Geiger slid in safely for the first run of the game.

The Vikings were up by one until the top of the sixth when St. Scholastica had four players reach home. The Saints scored two more in the top of the ninth.

Geiger reached home again in the ninth for Bethany’s other run. Travis Fisher (Cedar, Minn./St. Francis) and Geiger each went two for four. They also each recorded a double.

Aaron Siefken (Lone Rock, Iowa/Iowa Central CC) started on the mound pitching five and two third innings. He allowed six hits and four runs while striking out five batters. Alex Klug (Caledonia, Minn./Rochester CC) came in for two and a third innings allowing one hit. Jake Gleason (Loretto, Minn./Mesabi CC) closed out the game with two runs on three hits. All of the runs that came in against the Vikings were unearned due to four errors in the field.
