Minneapolis, Minn. – The men’s and women’s tennis teams both got their first win of the season in the conference opener versus North Central. The men defeated the Rams 5-4, the women defeated them 7-2.
For the men, the Vikings number one David Blumer (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain) defeated his opponent 6-4, 6-0. Bethany’s number three Eric DeBruzzi (Carlisle, Mass./Concord Carlisle) won in three sets 7-5, 2-6, 10-6. Peter Londgren (Charlevoix, Mich./Charlevoix) in the five spot defeated his competitor 6-3, 6-3.
In the doubles competition BLC took two to solidify the win. Aaron Wiechmann (Savage, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran) and DeBruzzi won 8-5. Nickolas Croy (Tacoma, Wash./Evergreen Lutheran) and Mark Gullixon (Madison, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) won 8-4.
On the women’s side five of the Vikings defeated their opponents in the singles competition. The Vikings number one Rebecca Kopacek (Osseo, Minn./Maple Grove) defeated her Ram counterpart 6-2, 6-4. Alyssa Rau (Sarona, Wis./Rice Lake), Rebecca Grove (Rochester, Minn./Century), Ellen Tommerdahl (Champlin, Minn./West Lutheran) and Rebecca Neumann (Hartland, Wis./Luther Prep) also won their singles competition.
Two of the doubles pairs defeated North Central. Kopacek and Brooke Osmundson (Delavan, Minn./Maple River) won 8-2. Tommerdahl and Neumann took their competitors 8-3.
The Viking men will play on March 31st against Wartburg and Central in Iowa, and then join the women for their next conference match on April 3rd versus Northwestern.
