Vikings defeat Southern Vermont 17-13 in last game of spring trip

Tucson, Ariz. – After splitting a doubleheader with Pitt-Bradford yesterday (L 8-9, W 9-7), the Vikings came out to claim a victory in the last game of the spring trip defeating Southern Vermont 17-13.
 
Tyler Woodside (Albert Lea, Minn./Glenville-Emmons) earned his first win of his collegiate career pitching five and two third innings giving up six earned runs on 13 hits. He also struck out three batters without walking any. Before Woodside came in, Aaron Siefken (Lone Rock, Iowa/Iowa Central CC) pitched the first inning giving up one hit and one unearned run, and Dylan McCormick (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson) pitched in the second giving up two hits and two earned runs. After Woodside did his job, Philip Wessberg (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) closed out the game going one and one third innings. He gave up one hit and struck out one batter.  
 
Offensively the Vikings put together an aggressive attack scoring at least one run in the first seven innings. They posted three in the first, four in the sixth and six in the seventh to secure the win.
 
Jeremy Bade (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) led the team with four RBI. He went two for four, one of which was a double and had two runs. Tommy Kramer (Blooming Prairie, Minn./Rochester CC) had three RBI going four for six. Casey Woodside (Albert Lea, Minn./Minnesota-Crookston) also had three RBI going four for five including two doubles. Adam Geiger (Mankato, Minn./Immanuel Lutheran) also had two doubles hitting three for six and led the team in runs crossing home plate four times.
 
The Vikings scored 17 runs on 19 hits and committed five errors in the field. Southern Vermont had 13 runs on 17 hits and seven errors in the field.
 
Bethany will return to Minnesota for a week of practice before heading to Iowa to take on Coe March 17 and 18 for a three game series.
