Baseball soars past Martin Luther

Mankato, Minn. – The baseball team hosted Martin Luther for a doubleheader defeating the Knights 13-3 and then 22-2.
 
Game 1 (W 13-3)
Garrett Benson (Rochester, Minn./Rochester May) was credited with the win after pitching five innings. He allowed just three hits while striking out three batters and walking one. No runs were scored during Benson’s time. Phil Wessberg (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) came in for an inning walking one and striking out another. Taylor Beattie (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) pitched a third of an innings allowing three runs on just one hit. Beattie walked three batters. Jake Gleason (Loretto, Minn./Mesabi CC) came in for the final two third innings recording one strikeout and allowing one hit.
 
Offensively the Vikings were led by Casey Woodside (Albert Lea, Minn./Minnesota-Crookston) who went three for three on the day. He recorded a total of five RBI. Two came on a home run in the bottom of the first, another two in the second off of a double. Tommy Kramer (Blooming Prairie, Minn./Rochester CC) went two for two with three runs scored and two RBI. Clint Aretz (NYA, Minn./Ridgewater CC) went one for two with two RBI. Sam Stier (Austin, Minn./Pacelli) went two for four while logging a triple.
 
Bethany played clean in the field with no errors and had a total of 11 hits.
 
Game 2 (W 22-2)
Adam Geiger (Mankato, Minn./Immanuel Lutheran) led the way offensively going three for three with five RBI highlighted by a three run bomb in the second. Nick Mahle (Anoka, Minn./Iowa Central CC) and Aaron Siefken (Lone Rock, Iowa/Iowa Central CC) also hit home runs. Dylan Gass (Bird Island, Minn./BOLD) went two for three recording one double and one triple for three RBI. Mitch Kleist (Eagle Lake, Minn./Mankato East) also went two for three with three RBI. Benji Hager (Owatonna, Minn./Ridgewater CC) went two for two with two RBI.
 
Alex Klug (Caledonia, Minn./Rochester CC) pitched four innings earning the win giving up three hits and two runs. He struck out two batters and walked one. Dylan McCormick (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson) pitched one inning allowing one hit and striking out one batter. Shane Moore (Hugo, Minn./White Bear Lake) came in for the final two innings allowing just one hit while striking out three batters.
 
The Vikings had a total of 19 hits and three errors in the field.
 
Next, Bethany will travel to Northland for a three game series. On April 13th a single nine inning game will be played at 3 p.m. The following day the Vikes and LumberJacks will take the field at 12 p.m. for a doubleheader.
