Owatonna, Minn. – The Viking men’s and women’s tennis teams went head-to-head with conference opponent Minnesota-Morris.
The men fell to the Cougars 3-6. Bethany’s number one David Blumer (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain) was the only Viking to win in the singles competition. Blumer handily defeated his opponent 6-2, 6-1. Eric DeBruzzi (Carlisle, Mass./Concord Carlisle) fell in four sets 6-7, 1-7, 6-2, 10-7. Mark Gullixson (Madison, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) also gave his opponent a run falling 2-6, 7-6, 13-11, 10-4.
In the doubles competition the team of Blumer and Ryan Koch (Savage, Minn./Bloomington Jefferson) won 8-4. DeBruzzi and his partner Aaron Wiechmann (Savage, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran) inched out their counterparts 9-7.
The women fell to Minnesota-Morris 2-7. Ellen Tommerdahl (Champlin, Minn./West Lutheran) had a great day defeating her Cougar competitor 6-1, 6-4. Tommerdahl was also part of Bethany’s only other win of the day when her and her partner Rebecca Neumann (Hartland, Wis./Luther Prep) won their doubles competition with a score of 8-1.
Neumann almost defeated her singles opponent taking her to four sets but eventually falling 7-6, 10-8, 4-6, 10-8.
Next, the Vikings will take on St. Scholastica on April 14th in Duluth at 2 p.m.
