Baseball 1-1 in double elimination UMAC Tournament

Duluth, Minn. – The Vikings are 1-1 in the double elimination Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Post-Season Tournament after defeating Northwestern and falling to St. Scholastica.
 
Game 1 vs. Northwestern (W 9-0)
The number two seeded Vikings took on number three seed Northwestern in the first game of the tournament. Garrett Benson (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Mayo) pitched a complete game in the shutout. In nine innings he allowed three hits while recording eight strikeouts and two walks. Benson is now 7-2 this season.
 
Lead off hitter Tommy Kramer (Blooming Prairie, Minn./Rochester CC) went three for four with two runs. One of his hits was a double. Lucas Herd (Gaylord, Minn./Sibley East) and Adam Geiger (Mankato, Minn./Immanuel Lutheran) went two for four with two RBI. Casey Woodside (Albert Lea, Minn./Minnesota-Crookston) also had two RBI on his one hit.
 
The Vikings had a total of 11 hits and left nine on base. Northwestern also left nine on base. Bethany had four errors in the field while the Eagles had two.
 
Game 2 vs. St. Scholastica (L 8-10)
The Vikings advanced to the winner’s bracket to take on number one seed St. Scholastica. Aaron Siefken (Lone Rock, Iowa/Iowa Central CC) pitched seven innings giving up ten runs on 16 hits. He struck out five batters and walked two. Eric Krop (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) came in for the eighth inning giving up one hit and no runs.
 
Sam Stier (Austin, Minn./Pacelli) logged two RBI on a triple going two for four. Woodside had two RBI on his double. Herd also had two RBI including a sacrifice fly.
 
Bethany and St. Scholastica each left 10 on base. The Vikings were clean in the field with a total of six hits. The Saints committed four errors.
 
The Vikings will now take on Northwestern again on May 11th at 1 p.m. If Bethany wins that game the team will advance to the championship game against St. Scholastica at 4 p.m.
