Aberdeen, S.D. – Bethany split with Presentation on the road falling in the first game 4-5 and then defeating the Saints 10-5.
Game 1 (L 4-5)
Despite having more hits than the Saints the Vikings were unable to pull out a win. The scheduled seven inning game went into eight tied at 4-4 before the Saints strung a few hits together to score and earn the win.
Aaron Siefken (Lone Rock, Iowa/Iowa Central CC) allowed five runs on five hits. He struck out eight batters and walked four. He pitched seven and two third innings before Eric Kropp (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) came in. Kropp allowed one hit that batted in the run but Siefken was credited with the loss for allowing the runner on base.
Offensively the Vikings were led by Tommy Kramer (Blooming Prairie, Minn./Rochester CC) who went two for three with one RBI. Dylan Gass (Bird Island, Minn./BOLD) went two for four crossing home plate once. Lucas Herd (Gaylord, Minn./Sibley East) was the only Viking to hit more than a single when he ripped a double in the first inning.
Bethany and Presentation committed two errors in the field. The Vikings had a total of eight hits and left six on base. Presentation had six hits and left seven on base.
Game 2 (W 10-5)
The Vikings commanded the second game scoring in every inning except the fourth and seventh. Jordan Sinell (Le Sueur, Minn./Minnesota State, Mankato) was credited with the win pitching six innings. He allowed five runs on seven hits. Sinell struck out five batters and walked three. Jake Gleason (Loretto, Minn./Mesabi CC) came in for the final inning allowing two hits.
Adam Geiger (Mankato, Minn./Immanuel Lutheran) led the team offensively going two for three tallying four RBI. Three of his RBI came off of a home run in the first inning. Siefken recorded three RBI on one hit, a sacrifice fly and a walk. Mitch Kleist (Eagle Lake, Minn./Mankato East) contributed two RBI on his home run in the second inning. Casey Woodside (Albert Lea, Minn./Minnesota-Crookston) went two for two with one double.
Bethany was clean in the field and left six on base with a total of nine hits. Presentation also had nine hits and left five on base. The Saints committed one error.
Next, the Vikings will host Minnesota-Morris in a three game series on May 4th and 5th. BLC secured a spot in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Post-Season Tournament. They will be the number two or three seed depending on the outcome of the final regular season games.
