Mankato, Minn. – The women's soccer team hosted the North Central Rams in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference opener. The Vikings defeated the Rams 3-0.
The first goal came in the first half off a header by Kindra Frairburn (Big Lake, Minn. / St. Michael-Albertville). Her goal was assisted by Paige Taylor (Coon Rapids, Minn. / Totino Grace) who took the corner kick. It was Fairburn's second goal of the season. Taylor also assisted Taylor Friehl's (Albert Lea, Minn. / Albert Lea) goal. Friehl found the back of the net at the 57 minute mark during the second half. It was also her second goal of the season. Emily Biggs (Hubert, N.C. / Swansboro) scored her second goal of the season thirteen minutes later. The goal by Biggs was assisted by Maggie LaPlante (White Bear Lake, Minn. / White Bear Lake) and Jessica Wacholz (Mankato, Minn. / Mankato West).
Alexa Mowery (Fairmont, Minn. / Fairmont) was in between the pipes all 90 minutes. She saved five goals to preserve the shutout.
The Vikings outshot North Central 39 to eight. The Ram keeper was put to work as 23 of Bethany's shots were on goal. Bethany also had a nine to one corner kick advantage.
The Vikings will host Northwestern on September 15th at Noon for the second conference game of the year. Bethany is 2-3-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
