Vikings pull away in second half to record first UMAC win

Box Score Minneapolis, Minn. - The Bethany women's basketball team was looking to rebound after a tough conference opening loss to Martin Luther at home Tuesday. They controlled the glass holding a 52-33 edge in rebounds and broke open a tied game at halftime to even their UMAC record at 1-1 with a 68-61 road win at North Central Friday night.

Shelby Wiederhoeft, Kasslin Swenson, and Briana Brandts all recorded double-doubles. Their big rebounding edge helped counter-act their poor shooting. They shot shot 34 percent (21-for-62) from the field for the game while North Central shot nearly 41 percent (24-for-59).

Swenson led the Vikings with 14 points on Tuesday night and she equaled that total on Friday along with 12 points recording her second straight double-double. Wiederhoeft scored 15 points and grabbed 14 rebounds leading the team in both categories. Brandts totaled 12 points and collected 11 rebounds.

North Central had four players score in double figures led by Josie Grenell who had 14 points.

The win moves Bethany to 3-10 overall. They remain in the twin cities to battle Northwestern for a 3 p.m. tip Saturday afternoon.
