Box Score Mankato, Minn. - The Bethany Vikings played in a tight ballgame early, but grabbed the lead for good with eleven minutes left in the first half, scoring 14 unanswered points to help give them a 15-point lead at the halftime. The Vikings scored the first 12 points out of the locker room and used that to catapult them to an 81-54 win over Northland Friday night at the SFC.
The Vikings held the advantage on most statistical categories, especially on the offensive glass, where they outrebounded Northland 18-5, and scored 16 second chance points to Northland’s 2. The Vikings also were 32-69 (46.4%) from the field, with assists on 24 of those field goals.
Shelby Wiederhoeft scored 24 points and grabbed 9 rebounds to lead the team in both categories. Kasslin Swenson scored 12 and grabbed 8 rebounds and recorded four steals. Jade Pelzl and Kelsie Ammann each dished out six assists, and Rudy Ruffin came off the bench for 15 points.
The Vikings evened their UMAC mark to 2-2 with the win and now own a 4-11 record overall. The Vikings will stay at home Saturday for an afternoon contest with St. Scholastica. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
