Box Score New Ulm, Minn. - Three weeks ago, Bethany had little trouble with Martin Luther College, throttling the Knights 85-49 at the Sports and Fitness Center. Tuesday night in New Ulm, it was a different story. Galen Holzhueter scored 26 points to pace a hot shooting MLC team as they upended the Vikings 78-71 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference action.
The Knights jumped out early scoring the game's first seven points and used that start to lead by as many as 18 points in the first half. MLC shot nearly 53 percent in the opening half (18-for-34).
Bethany made a second half comeback by cutting MLC's lead to one on a Garrett Benson three-pointer with a minute to go, but the Knights made their free throws down the stretch to secure the victory.
Derek Peterson led Bethany with 18 points, hitting all seven of his free throw attempts. Gavin Kroehler (13 points), Benson (11), and Garet Tucker (11) also scored in double figures for the Vikings.
The loss drops Bethany to 5-3 in the UMAC and 7-11 overall. They next travel to Duluth for a Friday night contest with St. Scholastica.
