Women drop tight one to Knights

Box Score MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany women's soccer team wrapped up its six-game homestand Thursday night against rival Martin Luther looking to get above .500 in UMAC play. Bethany got on the scoreboard first, but they were unable to hold onto the lead as the Knights rallied for a 2-1 win.

After a scoreless first half, the Vikings were able to take the lead ten minutes into the second half. Asia Owens' corner kick went straight to Taylor Friehl who headed it into the net for her fourth goal of the year. Less than a minute later however, Martin Luther got the equalizing goal knocking in a header off a cross of their own with Alexandra Hastings getting credit for the goal and Bethany Schultz getting the assist. In the 65th minute, Hastings and Schultz switched roles with Schultz getting the game-winner as she rifled a shot from 20 yards out.

Alexa Mowery stopped eight shots Knight shots in net for the Vikings.

The two teams square off again Saturday in New Ulm at noon.
