Box Score MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran College Vikings and the Northwestern Eagles had a double overtime tie game the first time they faced each other in September and this matchup was just as close. The Vikings were finally able to pull through with a 1-0 victory, snapping an eight game winless streak.
In the first period, Northwestern was able to get off a dozen shots, forcing senior goalkeeper
Alexa Mowery to make five saves to keep the Eagles off the board. Junior
Taylor Friehl got the Vikings' first shot on goal, nailing a shot off the crossbar in the eighth minute.
Both teams were held scoreless until just after halftime, when Bethany's freshman forward
Asia Owens was able to put the ball into the net off a corner kick in the 47th minute to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead. The Eagles' attack was relentless the rest of the half letting loose 14 shots. They were unable to get any of the shots to hit, however, and the Vikings were able to hold on for a 1-0 victory.
The Vikings' hope to keep the momentum rolling into their next game, a matchup against North Central University at 12 pm on Saturday for their last home contest of the season.
