Box Score MANKATO, Minn. - North Central came into Mankato looking to steal a win from Bethany Lutheran College on Saturday, but the Vikings tough defense was able to hold off the Rams and pull out a 1-0 victory on senior day.
The opening minutes were relatively quiet for both teams, until the Vikings'
Taylor Friehl turned a pass from freshman
Asia Owens into a header goal in the 14th minute. Senior goalkeeper
Alexa Mowery was able to save two Rams' shots in the 33rd and 34th minute, preserving the 1-0 lead into the half.
The Vikings came out firing in the second half, taking three shots in the opening minute. Friehl almost had her second goal of the game when her shot bounced off the crossbar in the 45th minute.
BLC took fourteen shots in the game, forcing Rams' goalkeeper Rachael Chant to make seven saves.
Bethany Lutheran College (5-9-3, 4-6-2 in UMAC) will look for its third straight win in a game against at Northland College at 1 pm on Friday in a critical matchup. With two games left in the regular season, Bethany and Northland are tied for fourth in the UMAC. The top four teams qualify for the UMAC Postseason Tournament. These two tied in their previous meeting in Mankato this season.
