Box Score WINONA, Minn. - Bethany has been playing good basketball in the young 2013-14 season, but unfortunately that good play had yet to yield a victory. That changed Wednesday. Three Vikings scored in double figures as BLC defeated MIAC foe Saint Mary's 60-51 on the road in men's basketball.
The Vikings seemed determined to get that first win by racing out to a quick double-digit lead.
Luke Roddy and
Trent Kuechenmeister both opened with 3s and
Nick Sanborn and
Jacob Wensmann followed with a layup and a jumper as Bethany led 10-0 less than three minutes into the contest.
The Cardinals started making their shots and started holding Bethany on the defensive end coming back to tie the game at 21 with 5:37 left and it remained tied going into the break knotted up at 25.
Saint Mary's began the second half on an 11-6 run to take their biggest lead of the game of five, 36-31 with 11:37 left. Bethany followed with a 9-2 run over the next three minutes, culminating with a Wensmann 3, to regain the lead 40-38. The two teams exchanged baskets before another Wensmann 3 gave the Vikings the lead for good at 45-43 with five minutes remaining.
Wensmann led BLC with 19 points. Sanborn followed with 18 and Roddy added 10.
Bethany (1-6) will look to make it two in a row when it travels to another MIAC opponent, No. 12 St. Thomas, on Saturday.
