Box Score MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany women's basketball team held strong against Wis.-Superior for much of the first half, but the Yellowjackets were able to use their depth and hot shooting to earn an 82-60 win over the Vikings, in their final home non-conference game of the year.
After getting down 11-2 in the opening minutes of the game, the Vikings were able to trade baskets with the Yellowjackets for much of the first half. With 4:50 remaining in the half,
Rudy Ruffin was able to get two steals, a lay-up and a 3-pointer to lead Bethany on a 12-2 run, cutting Wis.-Superior's lead to 33-28 with 3:20 left on the clock. The Yellowjackets ended the half on a 6-0 run and went into halftime up 39-28.
A Ruffin layup with 17:11 remaining cut the lead to 41-31, but that would be as close as the Vikings would get as Wis.-Superior controlled much of the second half pulling off the 82-60 win.
Ruffin had a team high 17 points for the Vikings, as
Jade Pelzl and
Kasslin Swenson added 15 and 14 points, respectively. Swenson also had a team high eight rebounds for Bethany.
Sally Linzmeier had a double-double for Wis.-Superior with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Bethany's next game will be at Marathana Baptist in Watertown, Wis. on Friday at 5 p.m.
