Box Score St. Bonifacius, Minn. - Even after Friday's night loss at UM-Morris, the Bethany men's basketball team was still in good position to clinch the #2 seed in the upcoming UMAC Postseason Tournament if they beat Crown on Saturday in St. Bonifacius.
That was not going to be an easy task though considering the Storm upset the Vikings in Mankato a few weeks back as Anthony DiLoreto scored 38 points. Bethany held DiLoreto to 19 on Saturday and the Vikings avenged that defeat by beating Crown 82-66 to clinch the #2 seed.
Garrett Benson scored 19 points in just 17 minutes to lead four Vikings in scoring. Seniors Alex Weldon scored 18 points and Gavin Kroehler added 16. Garet Tucker scored 13 while Derek Peterson dished out 12 assists.
Bethany shot over 50 percent from the floor (27-for-53) and 41 percent from 3-point range (9-for-22).
Northwestern wins the regular season championship with a 12-2 conference mark. Bethany, North Central, and UM-Morris all finished at 9-5 tying for second place. All three second place teams split their meetings with each other. Bethany earns the #2 seed by being one of the two teams to beat Northwestern this season. All remaining tie-breakers could not be broken to determine who the #3 seed would be between North Central and UM-Morris so it was decided by a coin flip in which North Central won.
The UMAC Men's Basketball Tournament schedule looks like this with semifinal games on Wednesday: #4 UM-Morris at #1 Northwestern and #3 North Central at #2 Bethany. Both games tip at 7:30 p.m.
