Baseball drops a pair to Hamline at the Dome

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Minneapolis, Minn. - After a tough opening game, extra inning, loss to Carleton, the Bethany baseball team looked to bounce back against Hamline at the Metrodome on Tuesday afternoon. The Vikings only managed eight hits combined in the two seven-inning games as they dropped both games to the Pipers.

In the first game, the Vikings got on the board first. Mitch Sellers (St. Paul, Minn. / Rochester CC) led off the bottom of the first with a double down the left field line. Two batters latter, Lucas Herd (Gaylord, Minn. / Sibley East) drove in Sellers with an RBI groundout.

In the top of third, Hamline's Jordan Rubbelke, started to put his stamp on the game. He hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Dan Moro in the third to tie the game at one. In the fourth, Rubbelke hit a 2-rbi single through the right side putting the Pipers on top for good.

Adam Geiger (Mankato, Minn. / Immanuel Lutheran) got the only other two hits for the Vikings in the first game as Bethany fell 4-1.

In the nightcap, Hamline put up three runs in the first two innings with two of those runs being unearned.

Bethany got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth when Geiger scored on a groundout off the bat of Andy Gensch (Apple Valley, Minn. / Iowa Central CC).

Hamline scored the game's next five runs to put the game out of reach. Nate Lee (Fertile, Minn. / Fertile-Beltrami) drove in a pair with a double in the top of the seventh. They would get no more as Bethany dropped the second game 8-3.

Bethany (0-3) next plays next Tuesday for a doubleheader against Macalester at the Metrodome beginning at 8 p.m.
