Box Score 2 Tucson, Ariz. - Cory Ferm tossed a seven inning complete game to give Bethany their first win in Arizona by topping Wesleyan 4-1 in the first game of a doubleheader on Monday.
After allowing a first inning run, Ferm held Wesleyan scoreless the rest of the way allowing nine hits and striking out five to get his first victory of the season.
The Vikings took the lead in the bottom of the first. Lucas Herd scored on an error and Mitch Sellers drove in Adam Geiger with an RBI groundout.
Matt McPartland added some key insurance hits later in the game. In the fourth, he drove in Mitch Sellers with an RBI double to right center after Sellers doubled to right center himself. The duo combined again in the sixth with Sellers crossing the plate from a McPartland single.
In the second game, Bethany trailed early 3-0, but came back to tie it at three going into the seventh.
McPartland drove in Geiger for the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh with a single, but Bethany wasn't able to hold onto the lead. Wesleyan scored a run to tie it in the bottom of the seventh and then scored the winning run in the eighth.
Bethany (2-5) takes on Cornell College Tuesday at noon in Tucson.
